International Christian Concern (ICC), a Christian watchdog based in Washington, recently released a list of countries where Christians are facing the worst persecution, World Religion News reports.
An estimated 40,000-70,000 Christians remain in political prison camps, experiencing similar treatment to victims of the Holocaust.
The document titled “2016 Hall of Shame Report” identifies the worst places to be a Christian.
ICC revealed that North Korea, Iraq, Syria and Nigeria are the worst state persecutors of Christians, while Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, China, India and Egypt are “perennial abusers of religious freedom.”
North Korea remains the worst country to be a believer for 14 straight years. Christians living in North Korea face horrific torture.

The report said, “An estimated 40,000-70,000 Christians remain in political prison camps, experiencing similar treatment to victims of the Holocaust.” A former prisoner told ICC that prisoners were forced to stone each other to death. Some died in gas chambers, fire and even crucifixion.
In Iraq and Syria, the Christian populations are dwindling and are almost extinct due to killings by radical Islamists. Majority of these Christians have fled the country because of persecution and they are highly unlikely to return to the country.
According to Christian Today, the persecution watchdog also listed a third category, “New and Noteworthy.” This category identifies countries where “events…indicate declining religious freedom and are cause for alarm.” The US, Russia and Mexico are included in this list.
Russia and Mexico are both Christian countries but Christians from minority groups are discriminated. In the U.S., “Christians and all religious people are being marginalised through the law,” the report said.
