Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban calls for stringent measures in protecting Europe’s borders from illegal immigration after the deadly terrorist attack in Berlin, RT reports.

The Prime Minister demanded the immediate closure of borders following the deaths of 12 people and the injuring of 48 others after a Tunisian migrant ploughed a truck into a crowd of people at a Christmas market next to Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church at Breitscheidplatz on December 19.

Twenty-four-year-old Anis Amri arrived to Europe in 2011. He showed aggressive behavior and tried to set fire to his school. He was sent to jail and was released in 2015. He was supposed to be deported but Tunisian authorities refused to take him back. Since then, he has been registering at different refugee centers using fake names and IDs.

In an interview with Hungarian online newspaper veol.hu., Orban said, “It is unprecedented that, in the heart of Europe, Christians were murdered at Christmas.” He added, “It’s clear that, in the case of migration, nothing can remain the way it was before. Brussels needs to change, migrants who entered Europe illegally must be deported, the borders need to be protected and the inflow of migrants has to be eliminated.”

Orban criticized that the integration of non-European migrants into Europe has “obviously been a failure.”

According to Express UK, Hungary built a 13ft 109 mile long wire concertina fence on the border Serbia in 2015 to keep illegal migrants from crossing into the country. The Hungarian government also built a fence along its border with Croatia and plans to do the same with Romania. These efforts reduced the number of migrants arriving to Hungary.
